Our Learning Strategy
Our e-Learning courses are designed to align with the WTO's Progressive Learning Strategy (PLS), offering targeted training at basic and intermediate levels. The courses are structured into two complementary learning paths: "Generalists," providing a broad understanding of WTO and trade issues, and "Specialists," offering in-depth expertise in specific trade topics. This dual approach ensures a comprehensive, flexible learning experience for our audience, addressing both foundational and specialized knowledge needs.

The introductory level provides a comprehensive initiation to the WTO’s role, structure, and operational framework through foundational courses like “Introduction to the WTO,” while intermediate learners can choose to deepen their expertise through either a Generalist or a Specialist learning path. This strategic approach ensures that all participants receive relevant and targeted training aligned with their career and developmental needs.
OUR STRATEGIC APPROCH
Empowering trade professionals through innovative, accessible training
Online elearning
Our e-Learning course catalogue forms the cornerstone of our asynchronous training methodology. Organized by trade-related topics and featuring a robust keyword and advanced search function, the catalogue offers certified courses for TA beneficiaries alongside self-paced, non-certified courses for anyone interested in learning about the WTO and its Agreements. With easy access to detailed course information, learners can precisely navigate the content most relevant to their professional needs, ensuring a flexible, tailored, and user-friendly learning experience.
Virtual Classrooms
For a blended learning approach, we leverage Virtual Classrooms that complement conventional in-person training. Specifically designed for selected officials, these sessions are integrated into Geneva-based thematic courses, regional workshops, and national activities, thereby creating a seamless synergy between digital and physical learning environments. This hybrid model not only enriches the learning process but also facilitates strategic interactions and networking opportunities among participants, maximizing engagement and knowledge retention.
Live sessions
Our strategy also emphasizes synchronous learning through Live Sessions, predominantly in the form of webinars led by WTO experts. These real-time events target TA beneficiaries and provide a dynamic platform for interactive dialogue, immediate feedback, and discussion on contemporary trade topics. By incorporating live digital interactions, we ensure that critical insights and nuanced policy discussions are effectively communicated, fostering an environment of collaborative learning and timely knowledge exchange.
WTO Tools and Resources
Complementing our structured learning paths, our WTO Tools & Resources offerings include specialized demo courses that guide users on how to effectively utilize WTO databases, reports, and publications. This practical, hands-on training empowers learners to harness essential digital tools and access up-to-date trade information, strengthening their capacity to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios.
Alumni Communities
Recognizing the importance of peer-to-peer engagement, we have established exclusive Alumni Communities for TA beneficiaries. These dedicated spaces enable participants to connect, share insights, and continue their professional development long after course completion. By nurturing strong networks and continuous dialogue, our alumni communities encourage lifelong learning and contribute strategically to capacity building and the collective growth of the trade policy community.
Mobile Learning
In addition, our commitment to innovation is reflected in our mobile learning capabilities, which ensure that all course materials and interactive sessions are fully optimized for mobile devices, offering the flexibility to learn anytime and anywhere.
